National Hanging Out Day

 

 

Sunday was national Hanging Out Day (according to the newspaper).  As noted in the paper, a group led by Project Laundry List, encourage communities to explore the benefits of line-drying laundry.  Having grown up in a large family where our laundry was hung out to line-dry all year long, I'm familiar with the benefits of line-drying laundry.  How great is it to crawl into a freshly made bed at night that has been made up with sheets taken directly off the line and slipped on the bed the same day.  Bliss!

I observed the day on Sunday as well as the day prior, Saturday when the weather was absolutely gorgeous.

There have been lots of different birds caught flying around here lately.  Bluebirds have been seen checking out the blue birds houses that dot areas of the property.  Hopefully, there will be some that set up housekeeping for the season and raise some young ones.   The ducks that were paddling around on The Puddle Pond earlier in the month haven't been seen lately.  

Easter breakfast was cinnamon buns followed by dinner at 1PM at my sister, J's and her hubby B along with my Mom and their son, R.  J and B's granddaughters visited later in the afternoon to enjoy dessert and an egg hunt in their backyard. 

The end of the next week, we traveled to OnlyDaughter, OnlySonInLaw and Grandsons #1 and #2 (and the two four-legged corgis) for Grandparents Day at the boy's school.  I remembered to take the camera to the Middle school on Thursday but forgot to take it along on Friday at the Senior school.  Apologies to Grandson #2 for not getting pics of him and his school this year.  As part of the 6th grade experience, there was art class where we began a family tree, a concert where Grandson #2 played his trumpet, Spanish class, what a fun, fun class and English class.  He's reading the poem he wrote for English and then our assignment was to create an "I am" poem with us.  What fun we had in writing one for each of us with lines such as "I dream...

(Grandson #2 - that brother will soon be taller than Pappy, I pretend..Pappy, that I can sing and I cry... Ana [me] ... at sad movies.)

As part of the 9th grade experience, we enjoyed a rousing lesson in the caste system in India, a concert where Grandson #1 played his trombone, jazz band class, several study halls and an interesting lunch period that lasted quite a while.  Last class of the day was Physics in the science lab.  Such a fun time with the boys that is looked forward to and anticipated every year. 

The asparagus patch has been weeded, fed and started to sprout stalks for cutting as early as Saturday.  This feels early for the start of harvesting asparagus but I'm told it really isn't.  Some seeds have been started inside for planting after Mother's Day in May and one section of the garden rototilled in preparation of early planting of things like onions, peas and radishes.  

April is rapidly passing by which means beginning with May, there are only 6 months left until I retire.  With the recent interviewing and selection of two candidates from a pool of eleven, those months will be spent in training them.  

Hope you enjoyed some beautiful weather over the weekend.  The rain poured from the sky overnight and the wind blew but the skies are now calm.  Spring is finally here and I'm grateful.
